Hello, team captains! Our team at Palmetto Health Foundation is off to a great start planning for Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, 5K + 10K on Oct. 14. We have some special things in store for you. Soon, we will share new tools that will make your registration, team recruitment and fundraising easier. This year, we will not hold a team captains kick-off but will give you more resources than ever—at your fingertips, at any time, from anywhere. Stay tuned!

Top Tips for Team Captains
This document outlines the top things you need to know as a team captain.

Walk for Life Team Registration Form
This registration form is for your Walk for Life team members who want to register by paper. This cannot be used for race registrations.

Multiple Person Waiver
Complete and submit this form if you have used the “register multiple people” option on the website (allowing you to register multiple people in one transaction) and need to submit signed waivers for the individuals you registered. 

Getting Started

How to set up your team online
Think of a team name.
Visit WalkForLifeColumbia.org or FamouslyHotPinkHalf.org.
Select “Register.”
Select “Start a Team.”

Proceed through the registration process.
When finished, select “Access your Participant Center” to see your fundraising headquarters. 

How others can join your team
Click on the “Team Page” tab of your Participant Center, copy the Team Page URL (link) and send this link to your family and friends. Once they are on your team page they can click on “Join Team” and proceed with the registration process.

Friends and family can also join your team by going to WalkForLifeColumbia.org or FamouslyHotPinkHalf.org:
Select “Register.”
Select “Join a Team.”
Type in the team name and select “Search for a Team.”
Select “Join Team.”
Proceed through the registration process. 

How others can donate to your team
Click on the “Team Page” tab of your Participant Center and copy the Team Page URL (link) and send this link to your family and friends. Once they are on your team page, they can click on “Donate Now,” enter the donation amount and proceed with the transaction.

Friends and family can also donate to your team by going to WalkForLifeColumbia.org or FamouslyHotPinkHalf.org:
Select “Donate to a Participant.”
Select “Search for a Team.”
Type in the team name.
Select “Donate Now.”
Enter the donation amount and proceed with the transaction. 

How to create a direct link to your team page
Log into your Participant Center.
Click on the “Team Page” tab.
Click on “URL Settings.”
Edit your URL.
This is your direct URL (link) to your team page and will give you an easy, quick link to share with others to help you fundraise and recruit more team members! 

Customizing your site

How to edit your personal and team page
Log into your Participant Center. Select either the “Personal Page” or “Team Page” tab. You will see options to edit the content, upload photos, add a video and include a personal blog.*

*Video and blog components only available for personal pages. 

How to change your team and personal fundraising goal
Log into your Participant Center. 
Select the “Progress” tab.
Select “Team” or “Personal” from the pink box on the right-hand side of the page. 
Select “Change” located under your current goal.
Edit the goal and click “Submit.” 

How to change your team name
Log into your Participant Center. 
Select the “Team Page” tab.
Select “Edit,” located in the gray box on the right-hand side of the page.
Edit the name and click “Update.” 

Bonus tools

How to enter offline donations (cash/check)
Select “Progress” tab.
Select “Team” or “Personal” from the pink box on the right-hand side of the page. 
Select “Enter New Gift.” 
Enter in gift information (donor name, amount, cash/check).
Select “Add” or “Save and Add Another.”

Check should be made payable to “Palmetto Health Foundation – WFL.” Please make sure that your team name is included on the memo line. If the check is to be credited to an individual, make sure his/her name is listed on the memo line. 

How to register multiple people on your team
Select “Register.”
Select “Start a Team,”
“Join a Team” or “Register as an Individual.”
Proceed through the registration process.When you get to the “Review” stage where you see your registration summary, select “Register Another Participant.”

Complete these steps for every person you are registering.
Have each individual you register sign the Multiple Person Waiver Form (found on the Walk Details and Race Details pages). 

How to send a fundraising email to your contacts through the website
Select the “Email” tab in your Participant Center.
Write your own message or customize one of the templates with your own story.
Upload your address book and send!

Be a top fundraiser!

Special recognition will be given to the top fundraising team and top fundraising individual. Awards will be given based on total dollars raised as of 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.

Note: To count towards this award, donations must appear on the team/individual’s fundraising page. That means that any offline (cash or check) donations must be entered online. See the prior page of this toolkit for instructions on how to enter cash/checks.

FAQs

If some of my team members register using the paper form, will they show up on my team page online?
No, only those who register online will show up on your team page. Encourage your team members to register online so you can see your fundraising thermometer grow!

I am an employee of Palmetto Health. May I pay the registration fee via payroll deduction?
Absolutely! If you are planning to walk, there is a registration/payroll deduction form just for Palmetto Health employees. Please note: if you payroll deduct, you will not show up online with a team page. Also, if you want to run in the half marathon, 5K or 10K, you’ll have to register online and pay via credit or debit card. Runners cannot payroll deduct.

How many people are needed to form a team?
Teams are composed of five or more walkers and runners.

What is expected of me if I register as a team captain?
It is all up to you. We would hope that as your team’s captain you would set a fundraising goal, encourage your team to meet that goal and help us spread the word that all funds raised will stay within our community.

Can my team include both walkers and runners?
Of course! There are some differences though: runners will receive a timing chip, have a different starting line and a different starting time. The good news is that the most important part is the same for every participant–you all are doing your part to take steps against breast cancer!

May I register multiple people with one transaction?
Sure! If you choose to register multiple people, we need your help to complete the Multiple Person Waiver Form, which can be found on the Walk Details and Race Details pages. These forms will need to be turned in when you pick up your T-shirts. If you are registering people after you have completed your registration, you must log out by clicking the log out button in the top right corner of the screen.

May I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, NO. We love dogs (and cats!) just as much as the next person, but they are not allowed at the event. 

Can I walk/run with a jogging stroller?
Yes, jogging strollers are allowed. We feel it’s never too early to introduce your little one to fundraising for a good cause. 

Are children required to pay the registration fee?
Children 12 and older must register. Children under 12 may participate at no charge.
